“Media and Twitter Agendas for Social Mobilizations: The Case of the Protests in Defense of the Public Healthcare System in Spain”

New article “Media and Twitter Agendas for Social Mobilizations: The Case of the Protests in Defense of the Public Healthcare System in Spain” by professors Pere Masip, Carles Ruiz, David Puertas, and Jaume Suau has been published in the International Journal of Communication.

The researches explore how a social movement, through offline and online mobilization, force news media to cover the cuts in the health system implemented in the Spanish region of Andalucia. Cuts that were previously ignored by the main news media. The findings point to the use of Youtube videos and Facebook groups to disseminate narratives and call for action. Complemented with massive demonstrations and Twitter activity addressing journalists. Clear & strong leadership in the social movement helps also in its success.
